Overview of Impaired Driving Incidents  - 2021

So far in 2021 the Saugeen Shores Police Service has investigated 47 incidents involving impaired driving.

A breakdown of incidents resulting in charges or ALERT Warning suspensions:

  • 21 Impaired by alcohol
  • 5 Impaired by drug
  • 2 Alert Warning – 3 day roadside suspension

In contrast in 2021 during the same reporting period officers investigated 24 similar incidents.

  • 17 Impaired by alcohol
  • 2 Impaired by drug
  • 1 Alert Warning – 3 day roadside suspension

Many of the investigations were initiated by observant citizens in addition to proactive work done by our officers.

The Saugeen Shores Police Service prioritizes stopping impaired driving through enforcement and prevention initiatives, such as RIDE programs and awareness campaigns. The highest blood alcohol reading in 2021 is .350, which is over four times the .08 limit. 

The service has 10 breath Intoxilyzer technicians and two Drug Recognition experts. All officers are trained in the Standard Field Sobriety Test regimen.
