Media Release - Impaired Driving by Drug Arrest
On May 19th at 5:08pm officers were called to a parking lot in Southampton concerning a man who appeared to be unconscious in a vehicle. Prior to police arriving the man left the area in the vehicle.
An officer on general patrol observed the vehicle being operated erratically on High Street in Southampton. A vehicle stop was made on Grey Street.
The responding officer spoke to the driver who displayed signs of being impaired by a drug. During the arrest the officer located a small amount of suspected fentanyl in the driver’s possession. He was transported to the station for further investigation.
At the station the man was assessed by a Drug Recognition Expert. As a result of the examination the man was charged with impaired driving – by drug.
A 24 year old Bruce County man has been charged with:
- Operation while Impaired by alcohol and/or drug, sec. 320.14(1)(a)
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance, sec. 4(1) CDSA
- Disobeying Order of Court, sec. 127 CC
He was released on an Undertaking with a court date.
