Southampton Man Arrested for Impaired Driving

Media Release -  Impaired Driver

On October 19th at 1:19am an officer on general patrol observed a vehicle disobey a stop sign in Port Elgin.  A traffic stop was initiated at the intersection Green St and Bruce St.

The officer spoke to the driver who displayed signs of consuming alcohol. A road side breath demand was made.  The officer administered the test resulting in a Fail for driver.

The driver was placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle while impaired.  He was transported to the police station for breath tests.

Two tests were completed

  1. 195 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood
  2. 198 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood

A 28  year old Southampton man has been charged with:

  1. Operation while impaired
  2. Drive motor vehicle with cannabis readily available
  3. Drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  4. Stop sign – fail to stop

The male’s vehicle was impounded for seven days and his driver’s licence was administratively suspended for 90 days.

The male was held until sober and released with a court date.
