On October 9th, 2018 an unknown person passed a fake $100 bill to a cashier at Walmart in Port Elgin. The crude replication went unnoticed and the suspect left the store with stolen property. The counterfeit bill was detected by a store accountant when depositing money into the bank.
Incidents of counterfeit bills have dropped drastically due to enhanced security features on the notes. The Saugeen Shores Police encourage people to be vigilant as the potential to be duped is always present.
