Public Safety Alert - Deadly drug in the area
The Saugeen Shores Police Service is warning the public about a very potent, potentially deadly drug seized within the jurisdiction of Saugeen Shores. The Saugeen Shores Police Service has confirmed though Health Canada that a substance sized in relation to an overdose has tested positive for Carfentanil.
Carfentanil is approximately 100 times more toxic than fentanyl and 10,000 times more toxic than morphine. This means Carfentanil can be deadly in extremely small amounts. Carfentanil is being cut in with other illicit drugs like heroin and fentanyl making the use of this drug extremely toxic, even a small amount could cause an overdose or even death.
The Saugeen Shores Police Service has administered Naloxone three times since February 2018 saving the lives of three people who suffered an overdose because of ingesting opioids.
If you suspect someone is suffering from an opioid overdose, please call emergency services immediately. If you have information relating to the trafficking of opioids or any other illicit controlled substance, please notify the Saugeen Shores Police Service or Crime stoppers.
