Media Release – 29 August 2016 – 5 September 2016

29 August 2016

10:06 am police attended to Saugeen Central Public School. Sometime between 4:00 pm and 10:00 pm on the 27th of August culprit(s) broke into the school and used chalk and dry erase markers to write graffiti on the interior walls. The graffiti was removed.

31 August 2016,

1:39 pm a person driving a black vehicle attended the Circle K gas bar and pumped $66.05 in gas. The man paid for other items in the store but not the gas and left. Video of the vehicle is being retrieved.

4:25 pm two males reported that on the 28th of August they left two cell phones in a backpack on the Port Elgin break-wall. When they returned the back-pack had been stolen.

5:19 pm a handbag was stolen from one of the vendors at the Flea Market at the Port Elgin beach. Police investigated and the bag was paid for.

11:07 pm police responded to an assault complaint in Port Elgin. After investigation a 40 year old Sauble Falls male was arrested and charged with assault.

1 September 2016

11:18 pm an officer on patrol observed an argument near McDonalds in Port Elgin. After investigation a 21 year old Saugeen Reserve man was arrested for breaching the alcohol conditions on his probation. He was held for a bail hearing.

2 September 2016

7:49 am a person reported a Visa card scam. This scam involved the person getting a phone call indicating her Visa card had been compromised then the caller sought further banking information. She hung up. Remember if you suspect a fraud or scam it probably is, hang-up, push delete, shred, and don’t give out your information. If you are concerned call the agency that claim to have called you using your resources not ones that are supplied. Then call the police.

3 September 2016,

2:21 pm a cottager received multiple calls on Saturday from a person claiming to be from Westario Power. This person further advised the power would be cut off in 30 minutes if they did not receive $1000. No company or credit card or CRA conduct business in this manner. The best course of action is to hang up.

4:32 pm a maroon e-bike was stolen from Port Elgin.

4 September 2016,

9:36 am police investigated a criminal harassment matter. After investigation a 39 year old Tara female was charged with Criminal Harassment.

Overall the September Long Weekend came and left without any major incidents. The police were busy with the volume of people in our area.

School is in! Please drive cautiously all the time but pay particular attention around school zones, school crossings and watch for school busses.

Another reminder that we are starting our next Business Planning cycle for 2017- 2019 and have our Community Survey out.

It is on our website at www.saugeenshorespolice.com

Community Watch members are doing a random phone survey. Paper copies of the survey are at the police office, town office, both post offices, both chambers of commerce. Please take the time it allows for a committee to create goals and objectives for the next three years for your police service.

Dan Rivett

Chief of Police
