Press Release – 7 April 2014 to 13 April 2014

7 April 14,

7:44 pm police responded to a theft of materials from a home under construction in Southampton. A propane fireplace and a skid of flooring were stolen. The time frame for the theft was over the past three weeks. No suspects, anyone with information regarding this theft is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.

8 April 2014,

11:00 am police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Catherine St by Saugeen Central School. A person was backing from the angle parking and was struck by a school bus traveling west. There was one child on the bus at the time and no one was injured. The driver of the reversing vehicle was charged with Failing to Yield.

5:23 pm police received a complaint of a possible computer repair scam. The complainant purchased an online computer protection system for $200. This progressed into a phone call indicating that company was a scam and buy protection. This was done for another $200. Presently the computer is locked up and the complainant is out $400. If you are having computer problems drop by one of our local computer supply stores, speak to the repair person and get your computer fixed. It is getting increasingly difficult to trust online solicitation. I do shop on line and trust professional sites. I do not respond to email solicitation for services like computer repair or remote access to my computer.

9 April 2014,

2:09 pm police responded to a personal injury motor vehicle collision between a scooter and an SUV at Goderich and River St Port Elgin. A person operating a 4 wheeled scooter traveled east from the Port Elgin Cinema lot onto Goderich St. There was no southbound traffic but heavy north bound traffic. A vehicle stopped in the centre lane in an apparent attempt to let the scooter cross the road and as the scooter entered the curb lane was struck by a north bound vehicle. The operator of the scooter was taken by ambulance to the Southampton hospital with multiple broken bones. Police do not have an update on the person’s condition at this time.

9:27 pm police responded to a motor vehicle collision on North Rankin St, car/deer collision. The vehicle had to be towed.

11 April 2014,

6:39 pm police responded to the Liquor Store in Port Elgin to a theft complaint. An employee confronted a male stealing a bottle of alcohol and the bottle was given to the store clerk. Three males left in a red minivan and police will be reviewing the store video. Police are investigating.

11:03 pm police conducted RIDE in Southampton, no impaired drivers.

12 April 2014,

A person left his trailer parked in the Southampton Coliseum parking lot overnight. Sometime overnight one of the tires was slashed. No suspects.

13 April 2014,

4:04 am police received a complaint of a male running throughout the neighbourhood yards. Police located an intoxicated 33 year old Guelph male. He was taken home to his parents and charged with Public Intoxication.

Police remind everyone to be aware of the flooding that is occurring and talk to their children about the related dangers. Every stream, Mill Creek, the Saugeen River are all extremely high with fast moving water. The banks of the streams and rivers are slippery. The ice on Lake Huron is not safe at any time; it certainly is dangerous right now.
