On the 18th of November 2009 two females entered Elgin Jewellers in downtown Port Elgin and were shown a variety of rings. The employees attention was drawn away and upon returning to the rings the employee recognized a switch had been made. The female was looking at a diamond ring valued at approximately $2000. but switched it for a similar looking older cubic zirconia ring.

The females had left the store quickly and the employee could not catch up to them. Video cameras in the store identified the women in question and police interviewed them. The ring was returned to the store and a 44 year old Port Elgin woman is charged with Theft Under $5000. , Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000. and will appear in Walkerton Court in January.
