Flight From Police, Dangerous Driving and Assault With a Weapon

On December 21st at 9:10am police were called to the Sanctuary Park Cemetery concerning an erratic driver.  Officers arrived on scene and learned that female had struck a pedestrian with her vehicle and fled the cemetery, causing minor injuries.

Officers quickly located the suspect vehicle nearby. An officer activated the police vehicle’s emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The female ignored the officer and fled in her vehicle. Due to the dangerous nature of her driving, a pursuit was not initiated. The vehicle was observed to be fleeing at a high rate of speed on side streets, and not stopping at any traffic controls.

The vehicle and driver were observed in other locations in Port Elgin, where she failed to stop for police. In one instance, where an officer attempted to stop the vehicle,  the female accelerated in the direction of the police car, forcing the officer to take evasive measures to avoid a  head-on collision.

Moments later an officer located the vehicle stopped in the parking lot of an apartment complex. The officer parked behind the vehicle, in an attempt to block it from fleeing. The officer exited the police vehicle and attempted to place the driver under arrest. The officer was ignored and the female again fled in her vehicle.

Soon after the vehicle fled the parking lot, another officer located the vehicle abandoned on the street, which led police to a nearby residence. The female was located and successfully placed under arrest.

At no time did any member of the police service engage the vehicle in a pursuit.

A 35 year old women has been charged with six offences:
