Media Release – Weekend Incidents

On Friday, April 5th, 2019 at 11:45pm officers stopped a motor vehicle in Port Elgin with heavy front end damage.  Officers detected that the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage.  A roadside breath demand was made.  The driver refused to provide a sample and was arrested as result. 

A 32 Toronto Man has been charged with:

  1. Fail or refusal to comply with a demand C.C. 320.15(1)
  2. Novice driver refuse to provide a breath sample HTA 48.1(4)
  3. Having Care or Control of motor vehicle with liquor readily accessible LLA 32(1)

His vehicle was impounded for seven days and driver’s licence administratively suspended for 90 days.  He was released with a court date.  The damage to the vehicle was determined to have happened at an earlier date.

On Saturday, April 6th at 11:13pm members of the Saugeen Shores Police Service responded to a public complaint concerning an intoxicated male outside in the area of a local motel.  Officers attended and located a man known to them to be on a court ordered curfew as a result of a recognizance of bail. 

A 28 year old Port Elgin man was arrested and transported to the station.  He was charged with:

  1. Fail to comply with a recognizance (curfew) C.C. 143(3)

He was released from the station with a new court date.

During the weekend officers also dealt with:

  • Two public intoxication arrests, both males were driven home to the care of a sober person.
  • Public Intoxication arrest of a male who threw a full can of beer at a passing fully marked police vehicle.
  • Five noise complaints regarding noisy parties.
  • One open liquor offence
