Officer's Observations Leads to Impaired Charge

Media Release – Impaired Driving

On Tuesday, February 19, 2019 an officer was on routine patrol in Port Elgin when a vehicle was observed being operated in an erratic manner.

The officer conducted a traffic stop at Concession 10 and Highway 21.  While speaking with the male driver the officer observed signs of consumption of an alcoholic beverage. 

A roadside screening device test was administered resulting in a fail.  The male was arrested and transported to the police station for further testing.

While at the police station the male provided a breath sample in excess of the legal limit.

A 59 year old Port Elgin man has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mgs

In addition to the charge the male’s vehicle was impounded for seven days and his driver’s licence was administratively suspended for 90 days.
