Saugeen Shores Police Awarded Civil Remedies Grant

November 30, 2018

Media Release – Civil Remedies Grant Received

The Ontario government is providing 1.5 million dollars to Municipal Police Services under the Civil Remedies Grant Program.  The government has approved 21 applications under the program that will “help prevent unlawful activity and support victims across the province.”

The Saugeen Shores Police Service was successful with a grant application to provide for a fully equipped front line Unmarked Police Utility Vehicle.  This vehicle will be outfitted with an Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system.  This system can read multiple licence plates at a time, without the operator having to input information.  The ALPR will alert the operator to any unlawful activity associated to the vehicle or registered owner.  The ALPR will be very important in assisting officers to gather intelligence about vehicles and registered owners involved in Human Trafficking.  The vehicle and the ALPR will also enhance officers investigations related to road safety.

The total grant received to purchase the vehicle and ALPR is $74,850.
