Press Release (2)

11 September 2009

At 2:23 pm 10 September 2009 Saugeen Shores Police and ambulance were dispatched to a residence in Port Elgin to a report of a 4 year old child without vital signs. Upon arrival police found neighbours of the boy performing CPR. The child was rushed by ambulance to Saugeen Memorial Hospital but pronounced dead at 3:18 pm at the hospital.

Police are investigating and will not be providing further details until after an autopsy, scheduled for Friday 11 September 2009.

The name and date of birth of the deceased is withheld giving family and friends time to be notified. It is a sad occurrence when a community loses someone so young. Please provide whatever support you can to this family in this emotional time.

Police and the Coronerís office are tasked with providing a full investigation and reasons for this death and this takes a period of time.

A further press release will be issued as details can be released.

Further to the earlier press release

After an autopsy at London University Hospital a pathologist was unable to determine the cause of death of this child. No foul play is suspected and we are awaiting further forensic results. The boys name is being withheld at this time.

The child had been resting in his room and it was discovered he was not breathing. Emergency services were called and neighbours attended and were administering CPR upon EMS arrival. The child had recently had a medical procedure and was recovering from that when he died. It is not known if this had a role to play in his death.

Forensic results take some time to come back and we may not know more until these results are known.
