Press Release – August 6, 2009

On the evening of Friday July 31st, 2009, Saugeen Shores Police attended a motor vehicle accident on Bruce Road 13 at Turner Street.  A southbound vehicle had lost control, entered the ditch and rolled over.  Four persons were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Charges are pending.

On August 2, 2009, police received a report that a Toronto Star newspaper box had been stolen from the area of Peel and Huron Streets in Southampton.

On Saturday evening, August 2nd into Sunday morning, police were kept busy with nine persons in custody.  Six persons were arrested for being intoxicated in a public place, while attending a music concert in Port Elgin.  An intoxicated person was arrested at Grey Bruce Health Services in Southampton for failing to comply with his probation conditions.  An impaired driver was apprehended.  Three males were arrested and held in custody in relation to domestic disputes.

On August 5th, police received a report that a kayak was lost off a sailboat on July 18th.  The kayak is a Pelican Pursuit 100. It is white with blue on top.  Anyone locating a kayak matching the description is asked to notify police.

In the early morning hours of August 3rd, police received a report of a single motor vehicle accident that occurred in the area of Bay and Huron Streets in Southampton.  Police attended to find skid marks leading off the roadway and a damaged fence. The vehicle failed to remain at the scene.  Witnesses described the vehicle and police also found parts of the vehicle at the scene.  Later in the morning, police received information from a citizen and were able to locate the suspect vehicle at a residence in Port Elgin.  A 17 year old female has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with failing to report damage on a highway and with contraventions of her licence conditions.
