Press Release

29 May 2009

On the 28th of May 2009 at approximately 8:00 pm a male person in a red SUV type vehicle possibly with a roof rack and pulled up to some young girls in the playground at St Josephs School in Port Elgin and offered them some candy. The male was described as in his teens with brown curly hair.

The girls ran to their parent but did not tell this for a period of time.

In light of the events that have taken place in Woodstock police would like to remind parents to speak to their children and communicate what is safe and unsafe. These girls did the right thing. But living in fear and worrying about this type of event all the time is not healthy for you or your children. Teach them who they can go home with, who they should talk to, where they can go if they do not feel safe.

The key is to do this with your children so as to educate them not to scare them.

Police will be providing extra supervision in the school areas and parents are asked to report suspicious activity.

Dan Rivett

Chief of Police
