Police Cruiser damaged and officer injured in Motor Vehicle Collision

On Friday January 30th, at approximately 5:00pm, members of the Saugeen Shores Police were requested to assist the Ontario Provincial Police with several motor vehicle collisions on Highway 21.  A Saugeen Shores Police cruiser was stopped on the side of the road at an accident scene, south of North Bruce, with its emergency lights activated.  A police officer and one of the persons involved in the accident were seated in the police cruiser.  A southbound vehicle then rear ended the parked police vehicle.  A Saugeen Shores police constable was injured in the accident. He was treated at hospital and released with minor concussion and whiplash injuries. The police cruiser was towed from the scene.  The accident was investigated by the OPP and the driver of the vehicle that struck the police cruiser was charged under the Highway Traffic Act.


Vehicle Stolen and Recovered on same night.

A Saugeen Shores resident, attending a party in Sauble Beach had her vehicle stolen early Saturday morning. The vehicle was noticed missing at approximately 4:30am.  The theft was reported to the Ontario Provincial Police.  Later in the morning, a family member on route to pick up the victim of the theft, observed the vehicle being driven through Southampton.  He followed the vehicle and contacted the police.  Saugeen Shores Police attended and arrested a male for theft and possession of stolen property.  This person had also been attending the same party as the owner of the vehicle.  The vehicle was recovered but with some damages.  A 21 year old male from Owen Sound was charged and is in custody for a bail hearing.


Intoxicated Male lost his way home.

Early Saturday morning, a concerned citizen reported an intoxicated male in the area of Catherine and Goderich Streets in Port Elgin.  This person was observed banging his head against a wall at the entrance to one of the businesses in the area.  Police attended and located a man who thought he was at his motel room and was trying to get inside.  His motel was located in the south end of Port Elgin.  He was noted to have injuries to his face consistent with the report of him banging his head against the wall.  Police attempted to deliver him to his motel but he was not registered and was unable to provide the name of the person who had booked the room.  He was subsequently provided a room at the police station for the night.  He was released in the morning and charged with being Intoxicated in a Public Place.


Snowblower Stolen

Police are investigating the theft of a snowblower that was stolen during the afternoon on Monday January 26th.  The snowblower was stolen from a driveway at a residence on County Road #40.  The missing snowblower is a Yardman, green and yellow in colour and is in like new condition.  Anyone with information, please contact the Saugeen Shores Police at 519-832-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
