Press Release

23 January 2009

22 January 2009, at 8:06 pm Saugeen Shores Police officers attended to the Southampton arena to investigate a report of an on ice assault. A midget boy’s hockey game was being played between Saugeen Shores and Arran-Elderslie at the arena. During the game but away from play two players became involved in a skirmish resulting in one of the boys (16 years of age) striking the other (15 years of age) from behind, in the area of his neck. This caused the boy to drop to the ice and lose consciousness for about 10 seconds. An ambulance was called and took him to the Southampton Hospital and later to the Owen Sound Hospital for further testing. No further information on his condition is known at this time.

Police are investigating this assault and are interviewing many people. If you have any information that would assist in this investigation please call police.

While it is not a usual practice for police to investigate on ice activities, sometimes certain incidents need to be investigated to determine if any criminality exists.

Dan Rivett

Chief of Police
