Media Release  - 4 to 10 September 2017

4 Sep 2017,

9:11 am police responded to an intoxicated female at McDonalds causing an issue. The female was escorted out of the restaurant. 

9:57 am police responded to a motor vehicle collision at Albert and North Rankin St. A vehicle was north on Albert St stopped for another vehicle turning left onto North Rankin and was rear ended by another vehicle. No injuries, the driver of the offending vehicle was charged with Following to Close.

5 Sep 2017,

12:02 pm police seized two small marihuana plants from a back yard in Port Elgin. No charges were laid.

10:35 pm sometime overnight someone stole a 20 pound propane tank from a residence in Southampton.

6 Sept 2017,

12:56 pm police responded to a motor vehicle collision at Elgin and Harbour St. A vehicle was west on Elgin St stopped for a stop sign and proceeded before the way was clear striking another vehicle north on Harbour St. No injuries. The driver of the offending vehicle was charged with Fail to Yield.

7 Sept 2017,

7:08 am, sometime overnight an unlocked vehicle was entered on Century Drive. A gift card and Advil was taken.

10:36 am sometime overnight a second vehicle was entered on Century Drive. Money was stolen from the vehicle totaling approx. $30.

12:23 pm police investigated an assault that took place at a residence in Port Elgin. A 19 year old male was arrested and charged with assault.

3:48 pm police responded to Canadian Tire to a report of a fraud. Police are investigating.

4:34 pm sometime overnight a third unlocked vehicle was entered on Century Drive. A bicycle was also stolen from this residence.

8 Sept 2017,

2:05 am police arrested a 22 year old female on the strength of a warrant issued by Sarnia Police. The female was processed and released.

9 Sept 2017,

1:41 am police observed two people lying on the sidewalk in front of the Queens. A male and female were extremely intoxicated. Both were arrested and spent the night in the cells.

9:54 am police responded to a theft of tools in Saugeen Township. Approximately $300 in tools was stolen including pry bars, a grinder and utility knives.

2:29 pm sometime overnight someone entered an unlocked vehicle on Gustavus St and stole a laptop.

2:36 pm police responded to a theft complaint at the Mink Lounge in Port Elgin. Someone stole two bottles of tanning lotion valued at $67.80. The person was identified and charged with Theft under $5000 and Breach of Probation.

4:09 pm police are investigating a cheque fraud. A male filled out a cheque from another person and deposited it into his own account. Police investigated and charged a 31 year old Saugeen Shores male with Fraud under $5000, Make a Forged Document and Use a Forged Document.

4:19 pm police received a report of a local person who believes his personal information was used in a fraudulent manner. Police are investigating.

10 Sept 2017,

12:30 am police conducted RIDE on Railway St.

         

1:01 am police were conducting RIDE on Railway St and observed a vehicle pull into a laneway trying to avoid the RIDE lane. The driver of the vehicle got out and approached the house. The vehicle had plates on it that did not belong to the vehicle and open alcohol was observed in the vehicle. He was arrested for having plates not authorized for the vehicle and during a search admitted to having crystal methamphetamine in the vehicle. The male had been drinking and passed a roadside breath test. He was charged with possessing 1.2 grams of methamphetamine.

11:59 am two bicycles were stolen from a shed in Port Elgin.

12:12 pm police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Albert St Southampton. A motorcycle was leaving the MACís and clipped a parked vehicle on Albert St. The driver received minor injuries to her leg and thumb.

1:20 pm a Ford F150 was parked behind a residence on Albert St and was scratched down the passenger side. No suspects.

10:28 pm a vehicle was stopped for a Highway Traffic Act infraction. The driver was found to have been drinking and the male failed a roadside breath test. At the station the male provided readings of 168 mgms and 173 mgms the legal limit is 80 mgms. The 35 year old Wiarton man was charged with Drive over 80 mgms, he received a 90 day ADLS drivers licence suspension, he was charged with being a novice driver and having alcohol in his system and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

School is back, school buses are on the roads twice a day and the kids are excited. Please drive with extreme caution, watch for children and watch for bicycles. As always please be safe.
