15 year old drowns off of Gobles Grove in Saugeen Shores

On Sunday 28 August 2016 at 6:24 pm police received a call that a young swimmer had disappeared underwater and could not be located in Lake Huron at Gobles Grove. Three boys had been swimming near County Rd #25 in Gobles Grove. Between the waves and current the boys started to get pulled out into deeper water over their heads. A 50 year-old man from Toronto came to their aid and was able to assist one of the boys to safety, another made his way in and a third disappeared under the waves.

Saugeen Shores Police, Fire and ambulance all attended. Police and fire members as well as members of the pubic were in the water attempting to locate the boy. Saugeen Shores Fire in the zodiac located the boy and he was taken to shore unresponsive. Resuscitation efforts were attempted on the way to shore, at shore and en-route to the hospital in the ambulance but the 15 year-old Brampton male was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Saugeen Shores Police are investigating. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday to determine the cause of death. The boy’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Please respect the water, know your limitations and practice water safety awareness with your family. Please show your support for this family during this tragic time.
