Media Release – Robbery

Saugeen Shores Police Service is investigating a Robbery that occurred at the Macs Convenience Store on Goderich Street in Port Elgin.

At approximately 12:40am on June 16, 2014 a male person attended at the convenience store and demanded money.  The male pointed his arm at the clerk and appeared holding a weapon. He also indicated that he had a bomb.

Cash and coins were handed over to the person and he fled from the store.

The incident was reported to police and within a few minutes a police officer on patrol observed the suspect in the area and made an arrest.

Some of the stolen cash was recovered from the suspect.

The disguise and weapon have not been recovered.  The disguise is described as a red plaid material with duct tape. The weapon may also be wrapped in red plaid cloth.

The accused was arrested in the area of Elgin and Stafford Streets in Port Elgin.

Saugeen Shores police have a male, age 19, from Tara, ON in custody.  He will be appearing in Walkerton Court on June 16, 2014 for a Bail Hearing.

Residents in the areas east and west of the downtown core area of Port Elgin are requested to observe for suspicious material or items matching the disguise and weapon description.  Anyone with information that can assist the police can call Saugeen Shores Police Service at 519-832-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
