Man Drowns in Lake Huron

At 4:17 pm Saturday 30 June 2012 police received a call that a male had been pulled from Lake Huron north of the Saugeen River along Eckford Drive, Southampton, with vital signs absent.

The manís spouse had been watching him swim from shore and when he appeared to be very still she asked bystanders to check on him in the water. A young man and woman pulled the man to shore; he was not breathing and had no pulse.

Police and a female at the scene started CPR. Several officers and firefighters from the Saugeen Shores Fire Service continued CPR until ambulance attended and took over. The 79 year old Southampton man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His name is not being released until next of kin have been notified by the family. Police are investigating but no foul play is suspected.
