Press Release

Good old fashioned police work solves Bluewater Drive arson.

On the 15th of May 2010, Saugeen Shores Fire and Police attended to a fire on Bluewater Drive in Port Elgin. This fire was started in a home under construction but severely damaged a neighbouring home as well.

Earlier this summer the area was experiencing numerous thefts from vehicles and homes. The arrest of a male person for these offences led to the recovery of numerous articles stolen from Port Elgin and Southampton.

As a result of multiple interviews and physical evidence police have grounds to believe that two individuals were responsible for the fire and one of those individuals was responsible for some vehicle entries in Southampton.

Karl Sternberg Jr. 22 years from Port Elgin has been arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime and Break and enter and commit mischief.

A warrant exists for the arrest of the second individual, Matthew Oliviera 23 years of Toronto for Break and Enter, Arson, and 3 counts of Mischief over $5000.
