Press Release

Police responded to 107 calls for service over this past weekend.

02 July 2010, at 2:27 am police issued a ticket to a 16 year old Cargill woman for having liquor at Green and Upper St in Port Elgin.

02 July 2010, at 2:30 am police issued a ticket to a 19 year old Port Elgin male for consuming alcohol downtown Port Elgin at Goderich and Gustavus St.

02 July 2010, at 3:46 am police observed a male riding quickly away from a residence on Wales Dr in Port Elgin on a women’s bicycle, upon seeing police the youth dropped the bike and ran. After a short foot pursuit the youth was caught and arrested. A 16 year old Saugeen reserve male is charged for possession of stolen property.

02 July 2010, 7:21 pm police charged a 26 year old Toronto male with consuming alcohol in a public place. He was drinking beer on the Port Elgin beach.

02 July 2010, at 10:30 pm police were on patrol on a bicycle in Southampton. The officer seized a 12 pack of beer from a 15 year old Southampton male.

02 July 2010, at 10:39 pm two males were caught drinking beer along Saugeen Beach Road, the males emptied their beers out on request of the officers.

02 July 2010, 20:46 pm police conducted foot patrols of the Southampton Trailer Park and the dunes area along the beach in Southampton.

02 July 2010, 11:10 pm police on bicycle patrol in Southampton by the Fairy Lake band-shell located four males smoking marihuana. The youths were cautioned and marihuana seized and destroyed.

03 July 2010, 12:24 am police with K-9 Agro conducted foot patrols of the Port Elgin beach and gave one ticket to a 24 year old Kitchener female person for drinking in public. 

03 July 2010, police conducted RIDE at County #13, County #3 and Gustavus St., 173 vehicles were checked. One driver a 23 year old male from Texas was arrested and charged with an Impaired Driving offence.     

03 July 2010, at 1:16 am police on patrol located four males at Green and Hilker St in Port Elgin drinking alcohol, one of the males was charged, their beer was dumped at the scene.

03 July 2010, at 1:32 am police attended to New Fairway Campground on Hwy 21 to a report of a person driving a vehicle at a high rate of speed around the campground and people feared for their safety. Police arrested a 20 year old Shelburne male and charged him with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

03 July 2010, at 9:40 am police responded to a boater in distress off of North Shore Park in Port Elgin. A 30 year old Port Elgin man in a kayak without a life jacket overturned in the lake. The male swam toward shore and got close before he started yelling for help and according to his own reports going under. Officer Adam Sachs entered the water and pulled this man to shore. The man was taken to Southampton hospital, checked over and released.

04 July 2010, at 12:24 am police on foot patrol on the Port Elgin beach issued a ticket to a 17 year old Kitchener youth for having liquor. The contents of his cooler were dumped.

04 July 2010, at 1:02 am a 25 year old Thornhill male was charged with having open liquor on Goderich St Port Elgin.

04 July 2010, at 1:26 am police responded to a report from town staff they had observed a group of males carrying a stop sign. The males were located and the stop sign was replaced. The dangers of such an act were explained to the youth.

4 July 2010, at 9:26 am two unlocked vehicles were entered in the South Rankin St area, a small amount of change was taken. Another truck was entered and some beer was stolen from a garage on South Rankin St.

4 July 2010, at 3:44 a boat off of Port Elgin harbour became disabled and started floating toward shore. The harbour staff secured a boat and towed the cruiser to the harbour. No one was injured in the incident.

4 July 2010, at 4:54 pm police received a report of a 12 foot aluminum boat at 4.5 hp motor being stolen from the river in Southampton. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
