Press Release – March 6, 2010

Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident.

On March 6, 2010 at 12:29pm, Saugeen Shores Police Service, Fire Department and Bruce County EMS responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Arlington and Mill streets in Port Elgin. 

Initial investigation has determined that a motor vehicle southbound on Arlington Street left the road and collided with a tree.

One male occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. A second male was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Grey Bruce Health Services – Southampton.  This male was then airlifted to hospital in London.  He is in critical condition.

The accident is being investigated by Saugeen Shores Police with the assistance of Ontario Provincial Police Technical Traffic Collision Investigators.

Further to the press release issued Saturday 6 March 2010, police confirm that the deceased was the passenger of the Ford F-150 pickup truck. The deceased is identified as Stewart Clark 30 year old from Port Elgin. The driver of the vehicle Lucas Johnston 30 years old from Southampton remains in critical condition in a London Hospital.

Police ask anyone with information on this accident contact the Saugeen Shores Police Service at 519-832-9200. Police are investigating speed and alcohol as possible contributors in this fatal motor vehicle accident.

As a result of the investigation into this fatal single motor vehicle collision the Saugeen Shores Police have charged 30 year old Lucas JOHNSTON of Southampton.

The collision which occurred on Saturday March 6th 2010 on Arlington Street in Port Elgin resulted in the death of passenger Stuart Clark, 30 years old from Port Elgin. 

Lucas JOHNSTON has been charged with Impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death, drive motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood causing death, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death. 

JOHNSTON is scheduled to appear in Walkerton Court on June 14th 2010.
