15 February 2010

7 Feb 2010, at 3:19 pm a Saugeen Shores Police Sergeant was southbound on Wellington St in a marked cruiser. The cruiser was not responding to a call. A 2005 Ford pickup truck was west bound on Elgin St and stopped for a stop sign at Wellington St. The vehicle proceeded west as the cruiser was passing in front of him and the front of the truck struck the drivers side rear corner of the police cruiser as it passed. Minor damage to the truck and approximately $2,600 damage to the cruiser. The driver of the truck was charged with failing to yield under the Highway Traffic Act.    

10 Feb 2010, at 7:21 am police responded to a motor vehicle accident at Goderich and Catherine St in Port Elgin between a snow plow and a vehicle. A Saugeen Shores Town pickup outfitted with a plow was northbound on Goderich St and turned left into the path of a southbound vehicle. The southbound vehicle attempted to avoid collision but the plow blade struck the vehicle pushing it into a pole on the side of the roadway. A passenger in the vehicle suffered minor injuries not requiring medical attention. The struck vehicle sustained severe damage. The operator of the plow was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for turning not in safety.

11 Feb 2010, at12:30 am police observed several people walking on Huron St in Southampton with open liquor. Two Hamilton men were charged with having open liquor under the Liquor Licence Act.

11 Feb 2010, at 8:17 am police responded to a report of a single vehicle rollover on County Rd #17. The vehicle was being driven north and going over the crest of a hill the driver saw a stopped vehicle and applied the brakes. The vehicle skidded on loose snow and left the roadway. No injuries, no estimate of damage.

12 Feb 2010, at 11:58 am police responded to a single vehicle rollover on County #13 at Cameron Drive. While this is OPP area they were tied up on a serious matter and our service responded. A vehicle was north on County #13 when some deer crossed in front causing the driver to lose control, go into the shoulder of the road, slid across the roadway, struck the ditch, hit a road sign and flipped the vehicle, ending up on the roof. The driver was not injured.

13 Feb 2010, at 3:39 pm police set up a RIDE program on County Rd #3 at the Golf Links Side road, at the snow vehicle trails. Twenty cards were stopped, seven snowmobiles were stopped, two highway traffic act warnings were given along with three car seats were checked for proper installation.

13 Feb 2010, two charges of speeding were laid against drivers speeding on Concession #10 east of Highway #21.

13 Feb 2010, 6:00 pm, police were patrolling the alleys behind the stores in Southampton and came across an individual consuming alcohol. A 51 year old Southampton female was charged with consuming alcohol in other that licenced premise and her alcohol was seized and poured out.

13 Feb 2010, at 9:21 pm police responded to Southampton Tim Hortonís to a report of a male passed out in the bathroom. The male appeared very intoxicated but indicated he was a diabetic, he was transported to hospital for treatment.

13 Feb 2010, 10:00 pm police conducted RIDE with the Ontario Provincial Police. 35 to 40 vehicles were checked and 2 Highway traffic Act warnings were given.

14 Feb 2010, 1:12 am police arrested a 62 year old Pickering male with Impaired Driving. The driver failed a roadside breath test and was taken to the station for a test on the Intoxilyzer. The driver registered 81 and 80 mgms respectively and was not charged with Impaired Driving but his licence seized and suspended for 3 days.

14 Feb 2010, at 2:00 am police observed an ambulance pull up to the Queens and then received a call of a male being assaulted by a beer bottle. A 24 year old Port Elgin man had an altercation with a 26 year old Chesley man inside the Queens. During this altercation the Port Elgin man was struck in the face with a beer bottle and a short time later he passed out while being tended to by another patron. The victim was treated at the Southampton Hospital for cuts to his face and ear, he received serious injuries. Police are investigating this assault and request that anyone who observed this altercation call police to provide a statement at 519-832-9200.

14 Feb 2010, at 2:06 pm police and ambulance responded to a single vehicle rollover on Side road 13/14 south of County Rd 17. The two occupants had to be assisted from the vehicle. The vehicle was travelling west on County #17 and lost control in some drifting snow. The vehicle spun out of control and went into the ditch coming to rest on its side. No injuries, no estimate of damage, no charges laid as a result of the accident.
