Press Release – November 9, 2009

On November 4th, Saugeen Shores police received a complaint of damage to a vehicle.  During the overnight hours, a vehicle parked on Hilker Street was damaged by a substance that had been poured on the vehicle hood.  The substance was white and had a chemical smell to it.  This resulted in damage to the vehicle paint.

Saugeen Shores Police are investigating a theft that occurred at The Plex in Port Elgin on November 4th.  A group of hockey players were on the ice between 9 and 10pm when someone entered the change room and stole cash from their wallets.

On November 8th, a Saugeen Shores Police officer was assaulted while investigating an incident in Port Elgin.  The police officer observed a person who he needed to speak to about an earlier complaint.  This person was riding a bicycle on Bruce Street.  The officer pulled over to the side of the road in front of the cyclist. The cyclist had plenty of space and time to stop but continued and rode his bike into the side of the police cruiser.  When the officer exited the vehicle, this person picked up the bicycle and threw it over the vehicle at the officer.  The bike landed on the hood of the cruiser and then slid off onto the ground. When the officer attempted to speak to the man, the agitated cyclist punched the officer in the face.  A 49 yr old Port Elgin male was arrested and faces charges for Assault Police, Assault with a Weapon, Mischief to Property and Breach of Probation.  The man was held in custody for a bail hearing on November 9th. The police officer was not injured. The police cruiser was dented and scratched.
