05 October 2009

On September 28, 2009, Police received two reports of break and enters to garages in the Arthur Street and Lord Elgin Place areas.

During the early morning hours, believed to be between 3am and 5am, someone entered a garage or a residence at Lord Elgin Place.  Nothing was reported stolen. On the same night a person entered a garage of a residence on Arthur Street.  Beer was stolen from the garage.  The victim found a CD/radio player in the garage that had been left behind by the culprit.

The two break and enters appear to be connected to a third incident involving a boat at the Port Elgin harbour.

On October 4, 2009, police received a complaint about damage to and theft from a boat at the harbour.  The incident had occurred within the past week.  The owner found damage to the canvas cover and a bench on the boat.  A Sony CD/radio player was stolen from the boat.  The CD/radio player matched the description of the unit that had been left in the garage on Lord Elgin Place.

Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to contact Saugeen Shores Police Service or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS

Saugeen Shores Police are investigating two credit card frauds that occurred on September 20, 2009.

In the first incident, a male approached the store cashier of a business in Port Elgin and attempted to purchase three $1000 gift cards.  The credit card he was using was declined.  He produced a second credit card and the card was accepted.  This person then made a second transaction and purchased four $1000 gift cards.  This time the credit card was declined.  He offered a third credit card and the card was approved.

In the second incident, two males purchased gift cards from a business in Southampton.  One of the males was able to purchase five $100 gift cards.  A second male entered the store and attempted to purchase more gifts cards but his credit cards were declined.

Police have security video from one of the businesses.  Similar incidents are known to have occurred in Owen Sound and other areas.  Saugeen Shores Police Criminal Investigations Unit is investigating the frauds.
